Stories By Marayke
Marayke graduated with a Bachelor of Communications in 2006, majoring in journalism and public relations and receiving a Deans commendation for academic excellence.
She has a passion for writing, her local community and a natural curiosity about life that her teachers describe as a “know for news.” Her portfolio includes stories for newspapers, magazines, radio and television.
Marayke hopes to work in television once she retires from swimming, her enthusiam whetted by two internships at ABC television Brisbane.
She hopes that in this capacity she can continue to challenge negative stereotypes about disability and be a positive role model."Seeing successful career people like journalists in the public eye, who happen to have a disability, is the best way to create positive perceptions of disability. Afterall seeing is believing," she says.
